I didn’t expect it, but most people actually said yes.

If not, what do you think could be improved about it to bring it to professional standards?

iDent Evalutation

iDent – Evaluation

In response to the questionnaire:

Most people commented on the fact that the iDent was a bit too long, which I agree with. It seemed way shorter when I was actually making it, but when I saw it displayed in front of the class, I seemed way too long with the ending bit.

What do I think?

Overall, I am quite happy with the way my iDent turned out, although I’m still not sure about the music, but most agreed that the music was good.

iDent: Pre-production/Written Treatment

Introduction

This will be the animation for my 2D iDent for my fictional game development studio: Majority inc. It will be more of an abstract themed animation with a mellow and relaxed feel to it while at the same time creating a sense of curiosity about the studio.

The concept

Against a black background we hear music slowly getting louder and louder as the black fades into a soft white-to-yellow gradient. The black completely fades away and we are left with the gradient background and a black horizon at the bottom of the screen. The music is fully turned up at this point. The black horizon begins shifting slowly, like water ebbing and flowing. It gradually begins to quicken until it spews out a black rounded square which begins to float towards the centre of the screen while transitioning into a regular square. For a few seconds the square seems to just sit there doing nothing until eventually, the upper half of a question mark begins to flow out just above the square. The question mark flows out in junks, almost in a hand drawn type of fashion, briefly pausing after each chunk has been drawn out. When the full question mark symbol is formed, it stays on screen for a few seconds before reversing itself back into the square in a similar fashion as to how to it originally appeared, until nothing but the black square is left on screen. The black square then begins to rotate on its z-axis and also begins moving  towards us as we find out that the square is in fact a cube. As it continues rotating we see that one of the sides of the cube is white in colour while the rest are black. The cube continues moving towards us, slowly at first, then when it reaches a certain point, it does a quick rotation so that the white side of the cube is at the top of it, then it rest for a moment and two lines of text spring out of the left side of the cube, one above the other. The first line reads “Get” and the one underneath it reads “Connected”. The cube then does another, even quicker rotation and spins itself so that the white side of the cube is now at the bottom. While it was rotating however, the previous text has now been replace with a line of text on the left side of the cube that reads “With” and text at the top of the cube which reads “Majority inc.”. The “With” slowly fades away so that we are left with a just the cube and the “Majority inc.” text. The screen slowly fades to black as the music fades into silence at the same time.

This is sort of what the logo is based on.

This is what I envision the horizon line to look like, except with a black silhouette instead of actual water.

This is the sort of colour spectrum I will be using for my colour scheme.

Technical Breakdown

To create this animation, I will be using Adobe After Effects CS4. For the audio, I will only be using a song (no special sound effects or anything). The song I will be using is most likely going to be a Soul genre song which happens to be royalty free. I estimate the total work time for this project will be about 1 to 2 weeks.

Music and Audio

For the music, I have considered many different genres of song such as Chill-step, Drum and Bass and Smooth Jazz, however, I ultimately settled on going for Soul. Now finding a good Soul song to match the animation that is also royalty free may prove to be a challenge, however, the one I had in mind is called “Stay With Us” and is performed by Seoul (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEDTDhjXlWk).

For sound effects, I didn’t really have anything special in mind, aside from maybe a “swoosh” type noise when the cube moves rapidly, or maybe a sort of air plane noise when the cube begins flying towards the screen.

Summary

So, in summary, I believe that that when this project is complete, It will fully embody what I have in my mind with the following key design choices:

Smooth, abstract animation

Mellow colour scheme

Equally mellow song

Clearly visible and easily readable text
